Master the art of beautiful curls with expert guidance from Michael Douglas himself.
In this comprehensive tutorial, celebrity hair stylist and mdlondon founder Michael Douglas walks you through everything you need to know about the CURL Multi Curling Wand. With over 35 years of experience in the hair industry, Michael shares his professional techniques for creating salon-quality curls at home.
What is Inside the Box
Your CURL Multi Curling Wand comes beautifully packaged with everything you need:
- The CURL device with a generous 3-metre cable
- UK and European plug adapters - simply unscrew and swap for travel
- Heat-protective mat - protects surfaces and doubles as a travel wrap
- Heat-resistant glove - wear on your non-dominant hand for safety
- Four interchangeable barrels for every curl style imaginable
Understanding Your Four Barrels
Each barrel creates a different curl effect - these are the four most popular sizes Michael uses professionally:
10mm Barrel - Tight Coils
Perfect for creating kinky, coily, and very curly styles. Also transforms straight hair into dramatic ringlets for that magical, textured look.
25mm Barrel - Lasting Curls
Ideal for hair that struggles to hold a curl. The tighter initial curl will relax beautifully over about 30 minutes into a soft, lasting wave.
32mm Barrel - Soft Waves
Creates a gentle, relaxed curl for that effortlessly glamorous finish. Perfect for everyday styling or special occasions.
19-32mm Reverse Conical - Beach Waves
Michael's clever design creates tighter curls at the roots and looser waves at the ends. As the hair's weight naturally relaxes the roots, you're left with even, voluminous curls and beautiful body throughout.
How to Change Barrels
- Rotate the barrel collar anticlockwise
- Slide the barrel out carefully
- Align the small and large notches on the new barrel
- Turn clockwise to lock securely in place
Temperature Settings
The CURL offers 14 precise temperature settings from 80 to 210 degrees Celsius:
- Lower temperatures (80-120): For delicate, fine, or colour-treated hair
- Medium temperatures (130-170): For normal hair types
- Higher temperatures (180-210): For thick, coarse, or resistant hair
- Works beautifully on synthetic and acrylic hair too
Turn on by pressing the centre button; hold for a second to turn off. The LED display matches your device colour - Berry shows red, Blue shows blue, Green shows green.
Preparing Your Hair
For best results, always use CURL on completely dry hair:
- Shampoo and condition your hair
- Comb conditioner through, then rinse
- Towel dry thoroughly
- Apply heat protection spray, cream, or mousse
- Blow dry until completely dry
- Only then use your curling wand
Pro Styling Tips from Michael
Modern, Open Curls
Wrap hair backwards, away from your face on both sides. This creates a fresh, contemporary look with beautiful movement.
Classic Hollywood Glamour
Wrap hair forwards towards your face for that timeless, elegant wave reminiscent of old Hollywood starlets.
Travelling with CURL
The heat mat doubles as a protective wrap - simply fold it around the barrel (even whilst warm), secure with the loop, and you're ready to go.
